Importing your CSV into Excel

If you're having problems importing your CSV into Excel, follow the steps in this article to quickly sort out your import.

Introduction

If you work with data, you know things can sometimes go wrong. If you're having trouble importing your Work Author .csv file to Excel, here are some tips to helps you.



Importing your first CSV

1.   Create a blank workbook in Excel.


2.   In your new workbook:

a. Go to the Data tab
b. Select Get Data (Power Query)c. In the Choose Data Source window, click "Text/CSV"



3.   Select your Work Author .csv file and click "Next".


4.   You will see a preview of your data. Click "Load" to import the data into Excel.


Importing future CSVs

1.   Open your existing Excel workbook.


2.   In your workbook:

a. Go to the Data tab
b. Select Get Data (Power Query)c. In the Choose Data Source window, click "Text/CSV"


3.   Select your new Work Author .csv file and click "Next".


4.   Select "Transform data".

5.   In the Power Query Editor:

a. Select "Append Queries"
b. Select the file you just imported and click "OK".c. Click "Close & load" to add your new data.


Note: If you use the same date range(s) as your original download, you may need to perform a quick cleanup to remove duplicates.



To remove duplicate entries:

1.   Go to the Table tab and click "Remove Duplicates".


2.   Select "My list has headers" and click "OK".
